Spread Delicatessen & Bar
When the team behind inner-east wine bar Lune opened their Unley cocktail bar Dolly, everything was perfect. Well, almost perfect. There was no room at Dolly for a coffee machine – so naturally they decided to lease the adjoining space. Enter Spread, a panini-slash-wine bar that’s open for coffee and sandwiches during the day, and doing the wine bar format justice at night.
On the daytime menu you’ll find two-handers that stack up against the city’s best. There’s a mushroom XO melt with togarashi, provolone and pickled shallots; and an eggplant katsu sando with smoked tomato, stracciatella and prosciutto. We also love the steak frites number, only available on Fridays.
The evening menu takes elements from the daytime offering and turns them into more elaborate dishes. For example, the chicken panini becomes a half-roast chook with bread sauce (made with leftover sandwich buns), and a salumi XO is made with deli meat offcuts. For drinks there's a tight list of stirred cocktails, tinnies and wines by the glass.
Any good kitchen boasts a stocked pantry and Spread is no different. The retail section champions products by local makers, including crispy chilli, confit chilli and truffle honey by The Larder.
