This is our edit of Brisbane’s best new cafes, updated monthly. Some are highly invested in serving excellent food and following the latest coffee trends, while others are just trying to become great neighbourhood catch-up spots. Here’s where we’re going for coffee, pastries and all-day eats right now.

  • The pioneering Sydney coffee roaster has landed in Brisbane – with Queensland’s first self-serve coffee taps, sweet treats by Agnes Bakery and a signature avo toast to start your morning right.

  • A Gold Coast deli king is now serving classic subs, Cuban sandos and loaded hot dogs in Brisbane. And because he's got a license, a Margarita or natty wine is in your near future.

  • On a leafy suburban road, find a beautiful pastel-coloured cafe devoted to the local community. Also – quality coffee and golden, cheesy sourdough toasties.

  • The team behind Clarence has flipped the derelict space next door into a sandwich joint inspired by NYC. Come early for brekkie muffins and coffee, or later for venison Reubens and tumblers of lo-fi wine.

  • City workers, take note – this sleek cafe is the answer to all your weekday lunch woes. It’s got you covered with healthy salads, loaded deli sandwiches and Bear Bones specialty coffee.

  • Just like a trad Italian bakery, this tiny takeaway joint sells chunky Roman-style pizza by the slice. Plus, arancini stuffed with saffron rice and Italian sausage, and house-made pastas to go.

  • This hole-in-the-wall cafe has a tight menu of delicious things between (and on) bread, alongside Single O coffee. Order crumpets with cinnamon butter (or a sausage-and-egg muffin) and park up in the dog-friendly courtyard.

  • This neighbourhood coffee spot, by a first-time hospo owner, is drenched in sunlight and nostalgic comfort. Find specialty coffee from around the country, served alongside pastries from Brasserie Bread.

  • This pint-sized kiosk, run by two brothers, is known for its viral croques (French bechamel-slathered toasted sandwiches) and canned-to-order frappes. Your best bet is to get in early – both have been known to sell out.
